When would I even want to use the PASSIVE?

• in formal writing

• usually if I talk to someone

• when the agent/subject is unknown

• when the agent/doer ("činitel/konatel") is important

PASSIVE VOICE

• used when the agent/performer of the action is NOT important (Australia was discovered in 1770 - irrelevant by whom)

• when the agent is UNKNOWN (My phone was stolen = I don´t know by whom)

• because I want to talk about the object (He broke the window X the window was broken)

• the correct form of "BE"

• past simple form of the verb: e.g. DID

• past participle (3rd form) of the verb, e.g. DONE

I PLAY TENNIS: different tenses
