First Step

The first step to multiplying decimals is the setup. The setup is the basic format you need to write your problem in before you solve it. In most cases with decimals, you have to align the decimal points. But with multiplying, you don’t unless the decimals automatically align. Here’s an example:

1.34

x2.4 <— not aligned

———

After, all you need to do is multiply!

Second Step

The second step is multiplying. While multiplying, just multiply like you would with normal numbers! Except, don’t bring down the decimal point. After you finish multiplying, add the numbers at the bottom. After you finish adding, count how many decimal places there are. In the case of 1.34 and 2.4, there are three. Then, move three places (number of decimal places) to the left.

Then your done! I hope you had fun with this lesson, and a quiz is linked to the next slide.
