Short adjectives.

For short adjectives, we usually add -er at the end of the word.

For example, the word 'cold' will become 'colder'.

To use it in a sentence,

The air-conditioner is 'colder' than the fan.

Superlative form of adjectives

We form regular superlative adjectives by adding -est at the end of a word and most.

For example, the word pretty will become 'prettiest'.

The word colourful will become 'most colourful'

1. For most short adjective, we form superlatives by adding '-est' at the end of the word.

cold→coldest

old→oldest


2. If the adjective ends in '-e', we just add '-st'

safe→safest

rare→rarest


3. If the adjectives ends in '-y', it will still end with '-est' in superlative form of adjectives.

pretty→prettiest

ugly→ugliest

Some superlative adjectives are irregular;

good→better→best

bad→worse→worst


Lastly, to form a sentence with superlative adjectives, we need to put 'the' with the superlative adjectives. For example,


"It's the ugliest animal"

"It's ugliest animal" ✕
