When did they first appear?

These animals first appeared about 2 million years ago in Tasmania.


Where?

Tasmania is an island near Australia.

How did it become extinct?

  • Humans arrived, started sheep farms (around 1800s). There were 5,000 thylacine living there

  • Settlers didn't want Thylacine to eat their sheep so they killed almost all of them except for 2 or 3.

  • (1900) The last 2 Thylacine were kept in a safe place where scientist could study them.

  • Last Thylacine dies around 1926
