Be going to

We use BE GOING TO to talk about predictions, intentions and plans in the future.

• Predictions: something that we see is going to happen (there is present evidence). Look at those clouds. It’s going to rain. 

• Intentions and plans: (decisions taken before the moment of speaking). We are going to have a drink after work. Do you want to come?

Examples:

• The doctor said I’m going to have a girl. (prediction)

• I´m going to travel to California in two months. (intention/plan)

• Why are you undressing?’ ‘Because I’m going to go for a swim.’ (intention /plan)
