2. Think about it: A limiting factor is any factor that controls the growth of a population. A group of ecologists wanted to study limiting factors so they fenced in a habitat (seen right) with a population of rabbits. The area was completely free of predators and there was a pond with plenty of fresh water. They discovered the carrying capacity of the habitat was six (6) rabbits.
