Rules of Addition

1. Order of addends

The change of the order of the addends does not change the sum.

Example : 100 + 500 = 600

500 + 100 = 600

2. Adding by grouping

The sum of three or more numbers does not change even when their grouping is changed.

Example - (33,752 + 4,796) + 45 = 33,752 + (4,796 + 45) = 38,593

Example - (10+20) + 30 = 10 + (20+30)

Adding 0, 1, 10, 100, 1000

• 57469 + 0 = 57469

• 213 + 1 = 214

• 33256 + 10 = 33266

• 145632 + 100 = 145732

• 56987 + 1000 = 57987
