Upon Ving....

• 本句型表示「一……就……」，強調兩個動作雖有先後但幾乎同時發生。

• 本句型只有一個主詞，所以「Upon/On + V-ing」和「S + V」兩個動作是「同一主詞」所做。

• 兩個動作的「主詞」不同時，必須使用另一句型「As soon as S + V..., S + V....」。

There be + N + Ving/pp.

• 「主動」或正在進行的動作使用 Ving 現在分詞，「被動」或已完成的動作則用過去分詞（片語）。

  
  

• There are over fifty volunteers delivering meals to elderly people who live alone.

  有超過五十位義工為獨居老人送餐。

• There were some people trapped in the elevator.

  有些人被困在電梯裡。

do the Ving

• 本句型指「做……工作」，必須使用the, one’s, some, all, a lot of, a little修飾後方的動名詞。

• 切勿與「go V-ing」混淆，此句型用於「從事……活動」，尤其指外出休閒類的活動，例如go bowling, go roller skating, go surfing。所以go shopping指「逛街」娛樂，而do the shopping是「採買」生活用品。

• Be sure to do the packing three days before departure to avoid forgetting something important like your passport.

  務必於出發三天前打包好行李，以避免忘記帶重要的物品，例如你的護照。

• Refusing to answer any questions, the suspect let his lawyer do all the talking.這嫌犯拒絕回答任何問題，而是讓他的律師處理所有發言。

to have + pp.

• 「to + have + p.p.」用來表達比主動作「先發生」，強調「動作已完成」或「累積的經驗」。

• At the end of the game, every competitor felt lucky to have taken part in such a glorious event.

  在比賽結束時，每位選手都感到幸運參加了這樣一場光榮的賽事。

• Around 20,000 African elephants are reported to have been killed last year for their ivory. 據報導去年約有兩萬頭非洲象被殺害以取得牠們的象牙。
