  • Summaries are a brief account of the main points of something.

  • Main points can often be found in the plot pyramid.

  • The exposition of the story contains the introduction of characters, settings, and conflict.

  • In "The Fox and the Crow," the exposition is, "a hungry fox meets a crow who is eating cheese."

Rising Action

  • Rising action is the action that builds up to the climax.

  • In "The Fox and the Crow," the rising action is when the fox is flattering the crow.

Climax

  • The climax of the story is the most tense part of the story or when the story reaches its turning point.

  • In "The Fox and the Crow," the climax is when the crow opens its beak up to sing.

  • At that point in the story, everything changed for the fox.

Falling Action

  • The falling action of the story are the events that follow the climax. The falling action shows the results of the climax.

  • In "The Fox and the Crow," the falling action is the fox eating the cheese.

  • The resolution is the end of the story. The resolution wraps everything up.

  • In "The Fox and the Crow," the resolution is when the fox walks away.
