How to label notes:
Each beat of music gets a count
In 4/4 time, you have 1 - 2 - 3 - 4
Notes are labeled by the beat they start on
(Beat 3 was left blank on purpose - learn about rests on slide 8)

This is what it will look like in written music, not a chart.

Longer notes
The beat a note starts on will be marked with a regular-sized number
For each beat the note is held, the count will be labeled with a small, super-script number

Remember, silence is as important as sound in music!
Rests are labeled using the same numbers as notes, but with (parentheses) around them.
