When you make a sentence, you follow:

SUBJECT + VERB + COMPLEMENT

E.g. Abu + plays + rugby

--> Abu play rugby.

The words in RED (leave/reads) are verbs in SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE.

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE is used:

  • to show habits, regular actions or to refer to present time

  • to state general facts

Word in the simple present tense comes in two verb forms:


base verb ...................for: I/YOU/WE/THEY

verb + s/es/ies................for: HE/SHE/IT


E.g. write

  • I write a letter./You write a letter./We write a letter./They write a letter.

  • He writes a letter./She writes a letter./It writes a letter.

BASE VERB:

You use the base verb when the subject noun refers to I/You/We/They


I/You/We/They + verb + ..........

  • I brush my teeth every day.

  • You drive to work daily.

  • We have breakfast now.

  • They walk to school together.

VERB + s/es/ies

You use the verb + s/es/ies when the subject noun is SINGULAR / refers to -->[He/She/It]


He/She/It + verb + s/es/ies]

  • He travels to Europe every year.

  • She teaches English every Saturday.

  • It carries its young to safety.
