What do you know about descriptive text?

Definition of descriptive text

Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. It also can be said that the descriptive text is a text that explains about whether a person or an object is like, whether its form, its properties, its amount, and others. 

Social function

To describe a person, thing, or animal in specific

To describe a particular person, thing, or animal.

Generic structure

• Identification: contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object that will be described.

• Description: contains a description of something such as an animal, thing, place, or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describes.

Language features

• Specific participant: has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). For example, Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim

• The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun. For example, a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in Jepara, etc.

• The use of simple present tense: the sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described.

Example:

My Beloved Pet

 

I have a very unique pet. He is a rabbit that I have since I was 5 years old. He has accompanied me for a very long time.

His name is Jonathan. His fur is white and has black spots. He has long ears and a short tail. He also has cute red big eyes! My rabbit likes to eat carrots and other vegetables.

When I release my rabbit out of his cage, he will jump everywhere making me hard to catch him. So, I could just put him in his cage because I’m afraid that he might be running away. I don’t wanna lost my rabbit because I love him very much

My Best Friend

I’m so happy to have a close friend. She is my beloved classmate, Fafa. We’ve known each other since we were in grade 8. We were in the same class, and we are still in grade 9 until now.

 

She is very beautiful. She has a very long black hair and white skin. She also has slim and tall body. Her eyes black eyes are also very charming.

 Fafa is a very kind and friendly girl. She is always ready to help other people. Although she comes from a rich family, she never looks down on other people. She is very sociable and has a lot of friends. She can interact easily with people from different ages. Therefore, she is also popular among teachers and parents.
