Job vs Career
Career education is different than job education.
Let’s learn how they’re different and why you may want a career instead of a job.

People with jobs may:
Not need advanced education or training.
Have an hourly wage, where they are paid a set amount of money per hour that they work.
Have less job security and fewer benefits.

Have special skills or training for their work
Get promotions or move up in their field of work.
Get paid a salary, which means getting a set amount of money per year rather than per hour.
Get benefits like health insurance, paid vacations, or paid sick leave.

Livingston High School allows you to begin vocational career and technical education.
You can find Career Technical Education pathways and classes on your class sign-up form.
If you are able and dedicated, you can go to a local vocational school or community college while you’re still in high school.

Types of Postsecondary Schools
Vocational-Technical Schools and Programs:
-offer education and training that is specifically targeted to specialized areas
Community/Junior Colleges:
-you can earn earn an Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Applied Science (AAS) degree
-you may transfer credits to a four-year college or university
Four-year Colleges and Universities:
-students can earn bachelor’s degrees by successfully completing the degree program
-four-year colleges and universities also have graduate and professional schools in order to earn a master’s, specialist’s, and/or doctoral degree(s)
