Comparative Adjectives

Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify

Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun (object).

The group that is being compared with can be omitted if it is clear from the context

The second item of comparison can be omitted if it is clear from the context

My house is larger than hers.

We create the comparative just by adding -er at the end of the adjective if is one or two syllables (Except for the irregular adjectives)

1 syllable: Fast ----- Faster

2 syllables: Simple ---- Simpler

In case of 3 or more syllables we form the comparative by adding "more" before the adjective.

Intelligent ----- More intelligent

Superlative Adjectives

Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or lower limit of a quality. They are used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects.

Noun (subject) + verb + superlative adjective + noun (object).

We create the superlative just by adding -est at the end of the adjective if is one or two syllables (Except for the irregular adjectives)

1 syllable: Fast ----- Fastest

2 syllables: Simple ---- Simplest

In case of 3 or more syllables we form the comparative by adding "most" before the adjective.

Intelligent ----- Most intelligent
