are nouns we can count.

For example:

1) scissors - 6 scissors (*no scissor)

2) country- 6 countries

3) dish - dishes

are nouns we cannot count.


For example:

butter, sugar, oil, fat, water and etc.

EXPRESSIONS OF QUANTITY

some & any

  • some for positive(affirmative) sentences

  • any is for questions or negative sentences e.g. Have you got any butter? Sorry, I haven't got any butter.

  • we can use both some and any with countable and uncountable nouns

much & many

  • many is for countable nouns e.g. How many children do you have?

  • much is for uncountable nouns e.g. How much time do we have left?

  • you can use both in affirmative, negative and questions
