Heat

  • What is Heat?

  • Have you seen the sun? It emits Light. How does it emit its light?

  • Have you tried touching a lit bulb? You hands feel its hotness, and Thus you remmove it from the bulb

  • This energy which does work and helps in emitting light is HEAT

  • The degree of the hotness itself is Temperature.

3

Thermal Equilibrium

  • Lets say an object A is hotter than Object B

  • What Happens?

  • The heat flows from A to B. But later it stops.

  • Then at that moment, the temperature in Objects A and B are equal

  • THUS

  • An object with more heat than another, will result in a flow of heat from the GREATER temperature to the LOWER temperature

  • If the temperatures of 2 bodies are EQUAL, We say that they are in THERMAL EQUILIBRIUM

4

Meaures of temperatures

  • There are 3 Measures of temperates

  • They are: Celsius (°C), Fahrenheit (°F) and Kelvin (K)

  • KELVIN is the Standard Unit

  • The Boiling Point of WATER in the measures is: 100 °C, 212 °F & 373 K

  • The Melting Point of WATER in the measures is: 0 °C, 32 °F & 273 K
