Goals v SMART Goals

• By setting goals, you are providing yourself with a target to aim for. A SMART goal is used to help guide goal setting. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.

What does a SMART Goal look like?

• Regular Goal: I'm going to write a book.

• S - I'm going to write a 60,000-word sci-fi novel.

• M - I will finish writing 60,000 words in 6 months

• A - I will Write 2,500 words per week.

• R - I've always dreamed of becoming a professional writer!

• T - I will start tomorrow on January 1st, and finish June 30th.

• Specific - What do you want to accomplish?

• Measurable - How will you know when you have accomplished it?

• Attainable - How can the goal be accomplished?

• Relevant - Is this goal worth working hard to accomplish?

• Explain Timely - By when will the goal be accomplished?
