Capitalizing Titles

Many people have titles due to their profession or position in life like mister, professor, senator. If you are just talking about a professor or the senator, you do not capitalize the word professor or senator.
"My professor is extending the due date until Wednesday."
3
But if you are talking about a specific person who is a professor or senator, then you attach the title to their name and both are capitalized.
"Senator Smith made an important announcement this morning."
4
A title is also capitalized when being used in place of a person's name.
"Sorry I'm late, Coach."
