THE HEART

  • The human heart is approximately the size of a clenched fist.

  • The heart is a muscle that pumps blood around the body.

  • The heart is part of the Circulatory system.

  • Blood only moves in "tubes" called blood vessels.

  • The blood vessels are: Arteries, Veins and capillaries.

  • Blood needs to be pumped around the body to carry materials the body needs like oxygen and food to the rest of the body, and carry waste materials away from the body so it can be removed by other organs such as the lungs and kidneys.

  • The heart is a special type of muscles that contract and relaxes on its own, constantly.
