Our Moon
The Earth only has 1 moon
Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on Earth's moon.
He said, "The surface is fine and powdery. I can pick it up with my toe."
4
Physical Features
The moon is a dusty ball of rock.
The surface has thousands of pits called craters.
The craters form when chunks of rock and metal called meteorites crash into the moon.
The moon is 1/4 the size of the Earth.
5
Rotation and Orbit
Like the planets, the Moon has two types of movement: orbit and rotation.
The Moon orbits, or travels, around Earth. It takes 27 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth.
The moon also rotations, or spins. It completes one rotation in about 27 days.
