Our Moon

  • The Earth only has 1 moon

  • Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on Earth's moon.

  • The moon is a dusty ball of rock.

  • The surface has thousands of pits called craters.

  • The craters form when chunks of rock and metal called meteorites crash into the moon.

  • The moon is 1/4 the size of the Earth.

Rotation and Orbit

  • Like the planets, the Moon has two types of movement: orbit and rotation.

  • The Moon orbits, or travels, around Earth. It takes 27 days for the Moon to orbit the Earth.

  • The moon also rotations, or spins. It completes one rotation in about 27 days.

  • It takes the same time for the moon to orbit and rotate!
