​Shadows during the day

• ​Remember:

  • ​The shadows always appear in the opposite side of the object from the light source

• ​Therefore, in the morning, as the Sun rises in the East, the shadow is on the west of the object.

• At noon , the Sun is on top of the object, so the shadow falls under it.

• ​The shadow is the shortest at noon.

• The shadow will appear on the east of the object after noon as the Sun is now on the west side.

• The shadow is the longest early in the morning and late in the afternoon / evening.

​The night

• ​It is dark at night as light is blocked by the other part of the Earth so we stay in the darkness to rest before starting another day.
