1. ​Longitudinal Wave

2. ​Transverse Wave

Longitudinal Wave:

​vThe direction of vibration is parallel to the direction of wave travel.

vExample : sound

Transverse Wave:

​vThe direction of vibration is perpendicular to the direction of wave travel.

vExample:

  water waves, electromagnetic waves

​PARTS of TRANSVERSE WAVES

​Definition

• ​Crest - the high points/low point in a wave

• ​Amplitude - maximum displacement from the rest position

• ​wavelength - the distance between two identical points on a wwave

• ​frequency - the number of waves per second

• ​Velocity - the distance moved in one second
