Comparatives
We use the comparative when we compare two people, places, things, or events
Ex.: The blue suit is cheaper than the brown suit.
The brown shirt is nicer than the blue shirt.

Comparatives
We add er to adjectives which have one syllable and add the word than after the adjective:
Ex.: cheap - cheaper than

When the adjective ends in e, we just add r:
Ex.: nice - nicer than

When the adjective ends in a consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC), we double the last letter and add er:
Ex.: thin - thinner than

When the adjective ends in y, we change the y to i and add er:
Ex.: pretty - prettier than

Irregular Forms:
Ex.: good - better than
bad - worse than

Comparatives
When we compare two people, objects, or events, we use more + adjective + than with adjectives of three or more syllables, or adjectives with two syllables that don’t end in y.
Examples
casual: The grey dress is more casual than the black dress.
elegant: The black dress is more elegant than the grey dress.
famous: This shoe store is more famous than that one.
