​Nouns

• A NOUN ​is a person, place or thing. It can also be called a common noun.

  • ​ Examples: teacher, school, car

• ​A PLURAL NOUN is more than one.

​​A PROPER NOUN is the specific name of a noun.

• ​Examples: Ms. Swann, George Washington Middle School, Washington D.C.

• ​It is ALWAYS capitalized in a sentence even if it is not the first word.

​Verbs

​A VERB is something YOU and other nouns can do.

​

​These words change based on WHO or WHAT is doing the action. Some follow the same pattern but other's do not.

​

​Some verbs can also be nouns. Read the sentence to figure out which one it is.

​Examples of VERBS

• ​TO BE.

  • ​I am

  • ​You are

  • ​He/She/It is.

• ​TO JUMP

  • ​I jump

  • ​You jump

  • ​He/She/It jumps.

  • ​We jump

​A school of fish - A noun.

• ​A school is a word that means a group of fish (and students)

​"I can school you in basketball." - A verb

• ​School in this sentence means to teach something.

​Adjective

​Adjectives DESCRIBE nouns and pronouns.

​Common examples of adjectives are numbers, colors, sizes, etc.

​Adjectives answer 4 questions:

1. ​Which one?

2. ​What kind?

3. ​How many?

4. ​Whose?

​Adverbs

A word that describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb

​Adjectives answer 4 questions:

1. ​Where?

2. ​When?

3. ​Where?

4. ​How?

5. ​How much?

​Can often be found by finding words that end in "LY)
