​DECLARATIVE SENTENCES

1. A statement states a fact.

​2. Positive - Affirmative (+)

​ Negative - Negative (-)

​3. Examples:

  • ​(+) Tom lives far from the school.

  • (-) Tom does not live far from my house

  • ​(+) All of us go to school early.

  • (-) None of us go to school late.​

  • ​(+) I have seen your uncle once.

  • (-) I have never seen your aunt before.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES (A QUESTION)

1. To ask question.

​2. Most are general questions which take "Yes" or "No" as answers.

2a) Yes-No question

Examples:

  • Are you a student?

    Yes, I am.

  • Does Andy know English?

  • No, he doesn't.

2b) Alternative questions.

​Examples:

  • Is June a cook or a maid? She is a cook.

  • ​Will you stay for a night, or must you leave now?

  • I shall stay for a night.
