​Introduction...

​Sentences are mainly divided into four kinds:

​1. Assertive Sentences

​2. Imperative Sentences

​3. Interrogative Sentences

​4. Exclamatory Sentences

​Assertive Sentences

​A sentence that makes statement or gives a piece of information is called Assertive Sentence or Declarative Sentence.

​Example: 1. Brianna is shy person.

​ 2. Janet loves sweets

​ 3. It was raining all day.

​ 4. They love to sing.

​Imperative Sentences

​A sentence that expresses a command, makes a request, gives a suggestion, an advice or an order is called Imperative Sentence.

​Example: COMMAND: 1. Get some cheese.

​ 2. Leave me alone.

​ Request : 1. Kindly bring the book.

​ 2. Have mercy on us.

​ Suggestion: 1. Let us listen to music

​ 2. Let us go the carnival.

​ Advice : 1. Know your limits.

​ 2. Always speak the truth.

​Interrogative Sentences

​A sentence that asks a question is called Interrogative Sentence.

​Example: 1. Who are you?

​ 2. How are you?

​Interrogative Sentence - 'WH' questions

​'WH' questions are questions that begins with 'WH' words - What, Who, Where, Why, Which, When, How....

​Example: 1. Where have been?

​ 2. When will you reach here.

​Interrogative Sentence

'Yes/No' question begins with Auxiliary Verbs - Am, Is, Are, Was, Were, Do, Does, did, has, have, Had, Will, Would, Shall, Should, Can, Could, May, Might... 'Yes/No' questions always have their answers as Yes or No.

​Example: 1. Did you like the movie?

​ 2. May I come in?

​Exclamatory Sentences

​A sentence that expresses a strong feeling is called Exclamatory Sentence.

​Example: 1. Ah! What a lovely fragrance.

​ 2. What a foolish thought!

​Affirmative and Negative Sentence

​All sentences are affirmative but the use of negative words like No, Neither, Never, None, Not... Makes a sentence negative. However, Exclamatory sentences are rarely negative.

​Example: 1. Affirmative - I have a key in my purse.

​ Negative - I have no key in my purse

​ 2. Affirmative - All of these Carnations are Blue.

​ Negative - None of these Carnations are Blue.
