Every staff starts with a clef sign that assigns a letter name to a specific line or space.​

• ​This is usually called a treble clef.

• ​It is also sometimes called a G clef.

• ​It is most often used by higher-pitched instruments.

​

​Treble clef names the second line G.

​Thinking of this image might help you remember that the part curling around the 2nd line names it G.

• ​This is usually called bass clef.

• ​Sometimes it is called the F clef.

• ​It is used for lower pitches.

• ​This clef names the 4th line F.

• ​Notice that the dots are on either side of the F line!
