Word Gaps​

What are word gaps?

​As readers, we often come across words that we are unfamiliar with or that we just don’t know at all. We call these Word Gaps.​

​How do we close word gaps?

• ​As writers, we give hints to the meaning of words, or context clues, for the reader to fill their word gaps. 

• The chart on the next slide gives an acronym we can use to remember these context clues for when we are reading words we don’t know.
