A whole note can be made into other kinds of notes.

If you add a stem to a whole note, it becomes a half note.

If you fill in the note head, the half note becomes a quarter note.

In any clef, stems go UP for all notes BELOW the third line.
Stems go DOWN for notes ABOVE the third line.
Stem can go either way for the middle line!

Stems going UP are on the RIGHT side of the note.
Stems going DOWN are on the LEFT side of the note.
