Superlatives
We use the superlative when we compare one person, object, or event to more than one other.
Ex.: Karen is the nicest person in our office.
Frank is the tallest person in the family.

Superlatives
We add est to adjectives which have one syllable and put the word the before the adjective:
Ex.: cheap – the cheapest

When the adjective ends in e, we just add st:
Ex.: nice – the nicest

When the adjective ends in a consonant-vowel-consonant, we double the last letter and add est:
Ex.: big – the biggest

When we compare one person, object, or event to more than one other, we use the most + adjective with adjectives of three or more syllables, or adjectives with two syllables that don’t end in y.
Examples
expensive: That dress is the most expensive dress I’ve ever seen.
exciting: Karen is the most exciting person I know.
famous: Oxford Street is the most famous street in London.
