Perspective: The way you see something.

*This is influenced by your personal beliefs and experiences.

*If someone has the same perspective as you, you may share similar life experiences.

5

A different perspective is not right or wrong.

  • It is important to be able to stop, and try to look at things from different perspectives.

Empathy vs. Sympathy

  • Sympathy is a feeling of concern for someone. You feel sad for the person who is struggling.

  • Empathy is the ability to imagine what someone else is feeling. You can put yourself in their shoes, and emotionally feel what the other person is feeling.

13

The ability to empathize comes naturally to some, but can also be learned.

*If you have had a similar experience, it is much easier to empathize with someone.

14

Empathy Blockers:

  • Downplaying - "It's not the end of the world."

  • The Positive Spin - "Look on the bright-side".

  • Cheering up - "Hey, let's forget about it and go get some ice cream."

  • "Should-ing" - "You should do......."

  • Put Down - "Well, you should have known." "You always mess things up."

  • Labeling - "You are being over-sensitive..."

  • SOMETIMES people just need to be heard and validated!!! It is important to face your struggles and your emotions.

15

Culture: The characteristics and knowledge of a group of people.

The way you speak, eat, socialize, worship, relax, learn, grow. We ALL have a culture!!!!
