​What is an Opinion Text...

It's an essay which presents your point of view on a specific topic supported by facts, reasoning and examples.

2. Body: Argument FOR the topic [why do YOU agree, supported with facts]

3. Body: Counter argument AGAINST the topic [why do YOU disagree, supported with facts]

4. Conclusion​

​Essay Structure

​1. Introduction = present your subject and state your opinion clearly. Make sure it contains a sentence that summarizes the main point of your paper.

​2. Body = you need to support your intro statement. Write several paragraphs, each presenting a separate point of view supported by reasons. Start every paragraph with a topic sentence – the main idea you will back up with arguments. Begin a new paragraph only when you want to discuss a new idea.

​3. Conclusion = write a paragraph where you restate your opinion using different words. You should avoid introducing a new idea.

PROOFREAD YOUR TEXT​

1. Grammar – make sure you use the same tense throughout the essay.

2. Vocabulary – check whether you use linking words and avoid slang.

3. Spelling and capitalization – check if all the words are written correctly.
