Read the excerpt below:

"I saw my first tree today. Dad finally broke down and took us to East Boston Urban Center after mom had been harping on it the past two weeks. I think he was glad we went after all, because he was smiling quietly all during the trip back.

Dad used to tell me stories about the trees that still existed when he was a boy..."

- "Autumntime" by Anthony Lintini, 1971

Read the passage below:

My dad looked stunned or mystified. I had just burst into the room, I had to do something because I couldn't sit in that moment; I couldn't view that scene any longer. I hugged my dad immediately and he embraced me back. It was my intention to comfort him, this was his loss, after all, but as I repeated over and over again, "It's going to be okay," I realized that the words were not for him. I could feel between us it was me that was shaking.
