Sets

  • A set is a group of objects that are same or similar.

  • ​Sets can be big or small.

  • ​Each object in a shape is called an element.

  • ​We can classify shapes - put them into different groups that are same or similar.

  • ​We can compare sets using greater than, less than and equal.

​Greater than

Look at this picture,

  • ​The greater number faces the open mouth.

  • ​Eight is greater/more than three.

  • ​A set with eight elements is grater than a set with only three elements.

​Now take a look at this picture:

  • ​The open mouth faces the greater number,

  • ​We read this as 20 is less than 30

  • ​A set with twenty elements is less than a set with thirty elements.

​Equal

​When sets have the same number of elements, we say they are equal.

​Each set in this picture has 6 elements, therefore they are all equal sets.
