Problem

Ava needs to buy new horses for her horse ranch. She needs 22 new Tennessee Walker horses, and 11 new knabstrupper horses. How many trailers will she need to transport all the horses?

​Make a Factor tree

​​To find the GCF the factorization way you need to make a factor tree.

​A factor tree is listing The number's composite Factors and breaking them down to there base prime numbers.

Step 1 on ​How to make a Factor Tree

  • ​Take the numbers 45 and 26 and find 2 factors of the number circle the prime factor of the two. Continue doing this until you get down to 2 prime numbers.

Step 2 List the Prime numbers

​Take the two numbers that you were trying to figure out, and put them at the bottom of your paper the put the 2 original double digit numbers then, list the factors that you circled from least to greatest.

​Step 3 Find The GCF

  • ​circle the numbers that match. Then multiply them but, If the numbers match then its just 2.

  • ​Example: There are two 2's but instead of it being 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 it would be 2 x 3 x 5. The answer that you get is the GCF. (this is only an example not part of the story problem.) when you multiply the numbers that were circled those will be your GCF!
