​Checkmate!

​So, what is a checkmate? Checkmate is when the king can't do CPR. If you put your opponent's king in checkmate, you win! Or, you can flip it, if your opponent puts you in checkmate, you lose! We don't want that.

​Checkmate Patterns: Queen and Helper checkmate

So, what different types of checkmates are there? Zillions! Here's one. It is, drum roll..........The Queen and Helper checkmate! In this position, White can play Qd7#.

​We'll get to the chess notation in Lesson 6. Now you might think the king can take, but the bishop guards the square. Checkmate. Game over.

​Checkmate Patterns: The King and Queen Mate

​Here's one last checkmate pattern. It is, drum roll..........The King and Queen mate! In this position, White can play Qg7#. Again, we'll get to the chess notation in Lesson 6. Now you might think the king can take, but this time, it's the king that guards the square. This is the #1 most important endgame you have to learn (in Lesson 9). Checkmate.
