Multiplying Decimals

  • Multiply the numbers.

  • How many numbers are there behind decimals TOTAL

  • Place the decimal point in front of that many numbers on your answer

3

Examples

  • .12 * .01 = .0012

  • .04 * .4 = .016

  • .8 * .8 = .64

  • .9 * .005 = .0045

Dividing Decimals

This one is a bit more difficult

  • First set it up as a normal long division leaving the decimals where they are

  • Now make the first number (the one not under the division roof) an integer by moving the decimal all the way to the right.

  • How ever many times you moved the decimal point right on the first number, move it that many times to the right on the other number as well.

  • Continue long division as normal, but maintaining the decimal points new place.

How to Cheat

If you don't feel like dividing... then multiply!

  • Multiply your possible answers with the second number in the division problem. Whichever one results in the first number is the correct answer.
