​All About Dussehra

The name Dussehra comes from the Sanskrit language “Dash” and “Hara”. It means the defeat of the sun. On the day of Dussehra, people in Mysore, worship Goddess Chamundeshwari. Dussehra is the most important festival of the year. Dussehra celebrates the Hindu god Rama's victory over the demon king Ravana and the triumph of good over evil. The epic Ramayana tells the story of Lord Rama who wins the lovely Sita for his wife, only to have her carried off by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka.

We Eat many things in Dussehra. we Eat foods like-

  • Chholia Paneer Rasedaar.

  • Pindi Chane.

  • Black Chana and Sweet Potato Chaat.

  • Soya Murtabak with Tomato-Lemon Sauce.

  • Raw Papaya Kebabs with Aloo Bukhara Chutney.

​What god do we worship on Dussehra?

Dussehra is one of the most famous festivals in India especially in Mysore, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. Goddess Durga is worshipped as goddess Chamundeshwari in Mysore, as goddess Kali in West Bengal and as goddess Durga in Andhra Pradesh. there are 10 days we celebrate Dussehra. The last Tenth day is called Navaratri.

Hindus believe that the goddess Durga is the creator of this universe and call her ‘ Jagatjan-ni ’.

  • Goddess Durga is also called Shakti / Prakriti Devi / Ashtangi / Bhavani / Bhagwati / Maya.​

  • Goddess Durga being supreme power kills the evil/demons, protects mankind and nurtures the good.
