GREETING AND LEAVE TAKING

​Objective :

Students are able to identify kind of expressions  greeting, leave taking and respond them correctly after identify and practising some dialogs.

​ Greeting

 Greeting artinya adalah sapaan/salam. Sedangkan dalam materi Bahasa Inggris, greeting adalah ungkapan untuk bertegur sapa dengan orang lain.

Greeting means welcoming someone with particular words or a particular action.

​Kinds of greeting :

1.       Formal Greeting

Formal greeting dipakai / digunakan ketika bertemu atau bertegur sapa dengan seseorang yang belum akrab, yang lebih tua, atau yang kita hormati.

Example of formal greeting :

• Good morning/afternoon/evening

• Hello Mr. Anton?

• Good day Madam/Sir (sangat formal)

​2.        Informal Greeting

Informal greeting adalah sapaan atau tegur sapa kepada seseorang yang sudah akrab atau kenal baik, yang lebih muda atau teman sebaya.

 

Example of informal greeting :

• Hi / Hello

• How are you?

• How are you doing? / How’s it going?

• How’s everything? / How are things? / How’s life?

• How’s your day? / How’s your day going?

• What’s up? / What’s new? / What’s going on? (sangat informal)

INFORMAL GREETINGS	RESPONSES	MEANING
How are you/How are you doing?	Fine/Great.	Bagaimana kabarmu? / Baik.
How have you been?	I’ve been great.	Bagaimana kabarmu? / Aku sudah baik.
How’s your day?	Not bad.	Bagaimana harimu? / Lumayan.
What’s up?	Nothing, just tired.	Ada apa? / Tidak ada, hanya lelah.

​ Leave Taking

 Leave taking artinya berpisah,  leave taking merupakan ungkapan untuk mengakhiri suatu percakapan atau pertemuan.

​Kinds of leave taking :

1.Formal Leave Taking dan Responnya

FORMAL LEAVE TAKINGS	RESPONSES	MEANING
It was a pleasure seeing you.	It was great seeing you also.	Senang melihat Anda.
It was nice to meet you.	Nice to meet you too.	Senang bertemu dengan Anda.
Have a nice day!	You have a nice day too!	Semoga hari Anda menyenangkan.
Goodnight!	Goodnight!	Selamat malam/tidur.

​2.Informal Leave Taking dan Responnya

INFORMAL LEAVE TAKINGS	RESPONSES	MEANING
Nice seeing you!	See you later!	Senang melihatmu! / Sampai jumpa!
Goodbye/Bye.	Goodbye/Bye.	Selamat tinggal.
See you (later)!	See you (later)!	Sampai ketemu lagi.
Later (sangat informal)	Goodbye.	Sampai nanti.
