Scripture: The writings of the Bible. All writings are inspired by the Holy Spirit and tell us about God and about the relationship between God and God’s people.
Prophet: a person who spoke on behalf of God to the people. Examples are Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.
Psalm:a song, poem or hymn that is used for worship.David is believed to have written some of the psalms in the Bible. There are 150 Psalms and they reflect all human emotions. Psalms can be sung in Mass. The Book of Psalms is in the Old Testament.

Proverb: short saying that gives advice on common problems and directions for wise living. The Book of Proverbs is in the Old Testament. Many proverbs are believed to be written by King Solomon.
Liturgy: A prayer where Christians join the prayer of Jesus to God the Father. Liturgies of the Catholic Church include the seven Sacraments, the prayer of the Church and Liturgies of the Word.
Prayer: Communicating with God. Prayer is a gift that makes it possible for people to listen to and talk to God, to become friends of Jesus and closer to God. Prayer enables people to ask God for help in their lives and to be strong against temptations. Jesus taught us ‘The Our Father’.

Blessing and Adoration: Prayers in response to all the ways a person has been made happy by God’s immeasurable goodness and greatness.
Petition: A prayer asking God for what you need.
Intercession: A prayer asking God to help others.
Thanksgiving: A prayer of thanks for God’s mercy and love. Greatest prayer of thanksgiving is the celebration of the Eucharist.
Praise: A prayer acknowledging God’s goodness.
Samaritan: a member of a group of people looked down upon by the Jews. They were from a region called Samaria. Jesus tells a parable called ‘The Good Samaritan’.
Parables:stories that were told by Jesus that were used to teach important lessons. An example is ‘The Good Samaritan’.

Charity: Gift of God that enables people to love God and to love others because of their love of God. Charity is a virtue.
Messiah: The anointed one of God (Hebrew word for Christ)
Christ: The anointed one of God (Greek word for Messiah)
Advent: A season of preparation for Christmas. Advent is the season of joy and hope when Christians renew their life in Christ. Begins the liturgical year, four Sundays prior to Christmas day. ‘Advent’ is Latin for ‘coming’. The colour is violet.
The Nativity: The birth of Jesus. Celebrated on Christmas Day. Retold in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.
Christmas Day: Celebrates the birth of Jesus. Celebrated on the 25th of December. The event is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew and Luke. A Holy Day of Obligation.
