​EQUATOR /ɪˈkweɪ.t̬ɚ/

​The sun is shining on the Earth. The sunshine is shining the most where the equator is. The Earth is spinning, the equator stays the same middle part. The middle part of the Earth, where the equator is, will get hot.

​The further away from the equator the colder it gets.

The equator divides the Earth into two hemispheres.

  • The Nothern Hemisphere is above the equator.

  • The Southern Hemisphere is below the equator.

LATITUDE /ˈlæt̬.ə.tuːd/

​If I wanna measure the distance of the Earth, I can measure it with degrees.

​The equator is right here, the equator is 0 degrees. If I go up to the North Pole and now I am 90 degrees away from the equator. If I go down the South Pole, I am 90 degrees away from the equator.

​The North Pole and South Pole has opposite season.

​The measure of how high above ground something is. (how high the mountain is from the ground)

​As we go higher, the temperature gets colder.

​ATMOSPHERE /ˈæt.mə.sfɪr/

The mixture of gases around the Earth. Without the atmosphere, the Earth would have no CLIMATE. Earth would be a ball of ice and rock.

​No air, we can not breathe, too COLD we will die.

​OCEAN /ˈoʊ.ʃən/

​A very large area of sea.

  • ​The ocean cools nearby land in the summer.

  • ​The ocean warms nearby land in the winter.

  • Area near the ocean gets more precipitation.
