• ​A computer stores DATA. Data is raw facts.

• Data can be any of the following:

​              TEXT                          IMAGES

         SOUND                      VIDEO

​What is Data?

TEXT 

Text includes any letter, numbers, punctuations or symbols that you type.

​IMAGES

​Images refer to pictures.

​SOUND

​Sound can range from the sound the computer makes when it starts up or music from your favorite artist!

​VIDEO

​Videos include any motion picture that is shown on the screen.

Four Function of a Computer ​

​What the Computer does with data...​

​Input

1. ​Accepts Data:

When the user enters data into the computer. This data may be entered using the keyboard or it can be commands from the mouse.

The Computer does work to the data. This processing takes place on the system unit/CPU. 

1. Outputs Data:

​

When the computer finishes processing the data, it shows the results. These results may be displayed on the monitor, on papers or it can be heard from the speakers.

1. ​Stores Data:

​

The computer stores the data for future use. Data can be stored on flash drives, the hard drive or CD's to name a few.
