What is the mood?
During the holidays, our home was glittered with decorations and hummed with preparations. We ate cookies and drank sweet cider while we helped her wrap bright packages and trim the tree. We felt warm and excited, listening to Christmas carols and even singing along sometimes. We would tease each other about our terrible voices and then sing even louder.

Katie used the blow-dryer to add volume to her hair. Then she curled it. She used eyeliner and makeup. She chose the perfect outfit, and then threw it on the floor and chose another perfect outfit. Then she put on the other perfect outfit that she had thrown on the floor. She looked at the time on her phone. Jacob would be here any minute. Her pulse quickened. Her stomach felt uneasy.
