the different food items you eat provide your body with different nutrients.
nutrients are substances that are essential for the growth and development of the body.
there are different kinds of nutrients found in the food and each nutrient performs specific functions inside the body. the various nutrients present in the food include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.

Carbohydrates
carbohydrates are energy-giving foods.
they provide your body with energy so,
they are required in large quantity. this
energy is used by us for doing different
activities. in the picture given, you can see
many examples of carbohydrates. such
as banana, bread, potato ect...

Proteins
proteins are body-building foods. they help in building strong muscles. the also help in growth, repair and maintenance of the body.
the different sources of proteins include fish, meat, eggs, milk and milk products.

Fats
fats are energy-giving foods. the provide
more energy more than carbohydrates.
the fat which is not used in the body is
stored for future use. Intake of fats should
in moderate quantities as eating too
much fat can make you overweight. the
fat underneath your skin keeps you warm.
fats also protect organs such as eyes and kidneys. some examples of fats are oil, butter, ghee ect..

vitamins and minerals
vitamins and minerals keep your body healthy and
protect you from diseases. hence they are called
protective foods. they are required in smaller amou
nts in comparison to the nutrients. some examples
of vitamins are: vitamin a, c, d, e and k.
some examples of minerals are: calcium, iron, iodine,
sodium and potassium. each vitamin and minerals
performs different functions inside your body.
