​Adding/Subtracting Fractions

Fractions that have the same denominator (bottom number) can be added or subtracted by adding/subtracting the numerators (top numbers)

​If the fractions have unlike denominators (different bottom number) they need to be changed into a common denominator

  • ​Change the denominator (bottom) by multiplying. 

  • ​Multiply the numerator (top) by the SAME number to make an ​equivalent  fraction.

  • Now add or subtract the numerators (top)
