​American revolution

​In 1774 the colonies held the first continental congress calling for a boycott of British goods. The British sent 700 soldiers to seize colonial weapons in Massachusetts Paul revere alerted the colonial Milita of the British plans. The Milta and British exchanged fire at Lexington and concord. A second continental congress was called and George Washington was named head of the continental army.

​The revolution begins

​At the second continental congress they made the decision to invade Canada hoping the Canadians would join against England. The invasion started off with the capture of fort ticondroga however,they faied the attack of Quebec and ended up losing hopes of conquering canada. In Boston the britsh tried to take control of the hills around the city leading to the battle of bunker Hill. During the battle the British took the hill but suffered twice the casualties

The British captured Quebec in 1759 ending the war. The treaty of Paris gave England control of french territorry. In 1763 chief pontiac attacked settlements in the great lakes region. To prevent conflict with natives King George the 3rd limited Western settlements.

13 Colonies

Before the American Revolution, there were several British Colonies in America. But not all of them participated in the revolution. There were only 13 colonies that ended up participating in the rebelling. These were Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island.

​Independence

Each colony had its own local government. In 1774 they each elected officials to represent them at the First Continental Congress. This was the first effort of the colonies to unite and make a single government. In 1776 the Second Continental Congress declared the independence of the United States from British.
