Homes

The homes that people lived in are a massive part of the highland clearances, they are the whole thing of the highland clearances. The homes they lived in were called either crofts or black houses. They got the name 'black houses' after their interior. There was a peat fire to keep the family warm and as there was no chimney the smoke made the interior black. There was also a side room for their animals to stay in the winter as they could not stay outside.
