​SURU verbs can be transitive and intransitive

Transitive verb expresses an action that passes from a doer to a receiver. The receiver is the direct object of the sentence. The direct object is usually followed by the particle 'o'.

Intransitive verb has no receiver of its action. It does not have a direct object.

ex.ryouri-(noun)cooking

​ryouri suru-verb

Haha wa maishuu sinigang o ryouri shimasu. - (transitive)

Mother cooks sinigang every week.

In this sentence sinigang is the direct object and the particle 'o' is placed after sinigang. A direct object answers the question who' or 'what after the verb. In a Japanese sentence a direct object comes before the verb and followed by the particle o.

Haha wa mainichi ryouri shimasu. - (intransitive)

Mother cooks everyday

In this sentence there is no direct object that passes from a doer. In sentence with no direct object the particle 'o' is still needed to be placed after the noun form ryouri(cooking)and suru =

ryouri o shimasu.
