​Continuous Data

• ​Continuous data is data that can take on any value. There is no space between data values for a given domain.

• ​Graphs are solid lines

• ​Ask yourself the following question... "can you have partial of whatever the x-value label is in the situation," and if you say YES it is continuous.

​The graph above is considered continuous because (1) it is connected by a solid line and (2) you could find the speed at any time value of that line.

​Discrete Data

• ​Discrete data is data with space between possible data values in the domain.

• ​Graphs are represented by points.

• ​Ask yourself the following question... "can you have partial of whatever the x-value label is in the situation." and if you say NO, it is discrete.

​The graph above shows a discrete graph because (1) it has points without a line and (2) you cannot buy half of a CD.
