The Tainos
The Tainos (Arawaks) were found living in the Greater Antilles.
They are believed to have come from the northern banks of the Orinoco River in Venezuela.
The tainos were located in Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola
Some Tainos also lived in Trinidad

Tainos- Political System
The Tainos Chief was called the Cacique
The Cacique were generally aged men who were considered to be wise.
The Cacique acquired their powers through a hereditary system ( passed on from father to son, if their was no son, then the eldest son of the cacique's sister.
They ruled over the village and controlled the population.

Kalinagos - Political System
The Kalinago Chief was called the Ouboutou
He was chosen for his prowess ( bravery), he had to endure pain and display fighting skills and expertise.
It was not passed down from father to son, he had to be elected
The chief's main duty was to organize the people in his community for hunting, fishing and war
